"Avatar" loses the highest-grossing position of all time, and Disney breaks down again.



From the "superheroes" to the "animations", the ten highest-grossing films of the year collected together a total of $11.897 billion, with the three feature films of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), of the year, responsible for 42.5% of that amount - that is, $5.058 billion.
In addition to this incredible brand, this year a new film (Avengers: Endgame) took the position of highest-grossing in history, with more than $2.777 billion collected worldwide.
Another record of the year was that of the Disney studio, which became the first studio in history to release six films that exceeded a billion-dollar box office.

10 - Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw

8 - Aladdin



‘Aladdin’ is a live-action based on the 1992 film with the same name and is stars Will Smith, Naomi Scott, and Mena Massoud.

6 - Toy Story 4



The fourth film in the “Toy Story” film series debuted in June and earned a $1.073 billion box office worldwide, becoming the sixth-highest box office of 2019 - in addition to becoming the franchise’s highest box office.

The story takes place two years after the events that took place in ‘Toy Story 3’. Woody and the other toys live at Bonnie’s house when a new toy is introduced: “Forky”. Embarking on adventures, the group ends up meeting an old lost friend, Bo Peep.

The movie, directed by Josh Cooley and written by Stephany Folsom and Andrew Stanton, was very well received by the critics. On the Rotten Tomatoes, the film received 97% approval based on 421 reviews. While on the Metacritic, the film received an 84/100 rating based on 57 reviews.

5 - Captain Marvel



Released in March, “Captain Marvel” is a feature film based on the Marvel Comics character Carol Danvers. The film stars Brie Larson as superhero Carol Danvers and Samuel L. Jackson, reviving agent Nick Fury once again.

4 - Spider-Man: Far From Home



The second film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe on the list is “Spider-Man: Far from Home”. The movie officially released in July reached the mark of $1.131 billion at the box office and became the fourth highest-grossing film of the year, with a national box office of $390 million - a total that represents 34.5% of revenue.

The film is a sequel to “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and follows the post "Avengers: Endgame" events with Tom Holland again in the role of Peter Parker, MCU character from whom the film is based.

Well received by critics, the sequel secured a 91% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 423 reviews. On IMDb, the movie got a 7.6 / 10 rating based on 250,000 reviews.

3 - Frozen 2



Now showing in several countries and not yet released in others, the film by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee was released in November in the United States and has already reached the mark of $453 million at the domestic box office, with a total of $1.236 billion worldwide - which makes it a third place on the highest-grossing list of 2019.

The sequel to the 2013 film “Frozen” takes place six years after the first film and shows Queen Elsa and her sister Anna together with their friends Olaf, Kristoff, and the reindeer Sven in search of a new adventure to discover the origin of The Powers of Elsa.

2 - The Lion King



The 1994 animation remake of the same name is second on the list, with the worldwide revenue of $1.665 billion, of which $543 million raised in the United States.

Directed by Jon Favreau, “The Lion King” debuted in July and portrays the journey of little lion Simba, who is born as the future king of the Kingdom Stone, but ends up betrayed and exiled from his kingdom.

The film received mixed reviews from critics, being quite compared to the animation of 1994, but acclaimed for its visual achievements. 1 - Avengers: Endgame



In addition to being considered one of the best films of the year, "Avengers: Endgame" also won the highest-grossing title of the year with an income of $2.777 billion, surpassing "Avatar" ($2.779 billion) as the highest-grossing film in cinema history.

The film is the closing of an era of the Marvel universe in theaters, giving an end to quite famous characters.
